A common theme among Anguspaul’s current works is the use of the South American mola pattern, heavily emphasized in Monochrome Butterfly in a Full Color World. Some paintings feature the pattern alone but there is also a series that contrasts the wild patterns with one solitary animal, as seen in this week’s Piece of the Week. The lone soul in this painting is the butterfly who represents individuality at its best. Anguspaul says that the butterfly does not fit in with the world around him but instead of seep into the background- he stands out because of it. Individuality is celebrated in Monochrome Butterfly in a Full Color World in a bright and dramatic way.
